Anybody using the temperature diode on Stratix II's?

On my circuit board I brought out the two pins from the temperature diode so that I could measure the temperature with an external device. I have not been able to get decent readings yet--either that, or my FPGA is 90C without even running anything.

Anyway, I found this page (http://www.altera.com/support/kdb/solutions/rd04202005_721.html) that states that the temperature diode is very susceptible to noise. It also suggests using maxim's max1617a (http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/1964).

Has anybody been able to get reliable readings using the temperature diode?

Thanks,

Brian

Yes, I have gotten good readings from the temp sense diode. You will see the MAXIM 1619 on some of the Altera evaluation or dev kits along with 7 segment displays. We have not seen problems -- you can use a thermocouple or temp sensing thermal gun to correlate.

Yes, I have a couple different designs with StratixII reading out good temperatures. I use a ADM1021AARQZ. These are products that are currently shipping, not Altera dev boards. I've found that the temperature reads out fine well beyond the operating range of the part  (I didn't ship that particular board).
