Using DM9000 Ethernet controller instead of SMSC

Hello,

Has anyone used the DM9000 Ethernet controller instead of the SMSC LAN91C111? The SMSC is very expensive and I consider using the DM9000 because this device is much cheaper. I would like to know if someone has used the DM9000 and how complex is the porting of the SMSC source-code to DM9000.

Out of curiosity, what does the DM9000 cost (say in Q100). In Canada, we're paying around $20US for the SMC91c111.

Other alternatives we've used in the past are:[list][*]Realtek RTL8019AS (approx $7.00 but 10Mbps only)

[*]Cirrus Logic CS8900 (also 10Mbps only)

[*]morethanIP EMAC ($4 for PHY and ?? LEs in your FPGA)

[*]opencores.org EMAC (as above)

Hello Mike,

The DM9000 costs about EUR 5.10 at Q100 in Germany. That’s a good reason for changing, isn’t it! I would like to save LEs in the FPGA so I have to take a complete MAC+PHY.
