A question about the toggle in early power estimation (EPE)

Hi

I have used the EPE tool based on excel. I cannot determine the value of the toggle. I have some questions about the toggle values. Are the toggle values in the "Logic", "Ram", "DSP", "IO" the same or different? How much are the proper values for these terms?

Thank you

That depends on clocking only. a signal that changes every clock has toggle rate of 100% e.g. first lsb of an active counter. It does not differ whether it is logic or other blocks.

It is obviously hard to get the correct average over a large project but is just an estimate. You might just use the default value of, I think of 13%

If you've started the creation of your project in Quartus, you can generate an EPE input file that can help in setting up the EPE. I forget if the option is in the Project menu or the File menu, but you can use that as a starting point.
