CPLD usage/programming

Hi,

I am new to CPLDs and would like to know how they can be programmed(which software, cables etc), their cost.

Do I need to buy a development kit to program a CPLD? I am currently using UP3 Education Board. Can I use that to program a CPLD?

Thanks for the replies,

Amjad

As far as I know, CPLDs are programmed via jtag port. They do not have dedicated configuration ports as FPGAs.

So to program it, put it on jtag chain of your board if it can be interfaced.

They retain their config at power down but have limited erase/program cycles.
