Hello all. I am working on a package for board layout for a Cyclone III using the PQFP40 package. I need to know what the recommended land pattern for this package is... not having any luck finding anything except for BGA packages.

At the time you could get a free footprint calculator from PCB Matrix. But They have been subsequently acquired by Valor and then Mentor, so you can no longer download the free version. But you can buy the IPC 735IB specification for US $ 112,- (https://portal.ipc.org/purchase/productdetail.aspx?product_code=987caa7f-ff93-df11-9e60-002219545fd5 (https://portal.ipc.org/purchase/productdetail.aspx?product_code=987caa7f-ff93-df11-9e60-002219545fd5)) and you get that same LP Calculator thrown in.

An updated version of the classical NEC semiconductur devive mounting technlogy manual c10535 has been published by Renessas http://www.renesas.com/prod/package/manual/

The original document can be found at various places on the internet as well. It suggests 0.25 x 1.4 mm pads for the PQFP240 footprint.

Actually you can download a free LP-Viewer (after registering with Mentor ...) and it will show you the land-patterns for almost any standard package. I suggest you look in the SMN7531B library (the N stands for nominal, the L for least, and the M for Maximum), you will see that the IPC recommendation for the MS-029 Variation GA is a pad of 0.30 x 1.60 at 34.0 mm centre spacing
