Hi everyone,

I am a student and I need to use Quartus II for some assignments.

My question:

is there a free version of quartus ii with stratix support?

i will have to do some vhdl coding and simulations using the waveform editor.

what different components do i have to install to make it all work?

I already tried the 13 version web and subscription trial, the web did not have Stratix and the subscription trial did but it did not have a Simulator option to set the simulation to (Functional vs Timing) in addition I could not find the Waveform Editor.

Any help is appreciated!

For Stratix support you pretty much need the subscription edition. Since your are a student, you may be able to work with your school and use their license. I don't know if there's a student licensing deal or not, but if they are working with the larger devices they should have a license.

As far as the waveform editor, I suggest using modelsim Altera Starter Edition, (which is included with the subscription of Quartus). This is not the old waveform editor simulation that was built into quartus, but it's more of an industry standard simulator, that you should learn how to use.

You can use V11.0SP1 for some Stratix Support: http://dl.altera.com/devices/

The web edition usually only supports the smallest stratix device.
