100 MB Ethernet solution for Arria10

Dear forum members,

I read the Arria 10 documentation, but it is not clear for me if the device supports the 100 Mb ethernet signaling.

If it does, what IPs support 100 Mb ethernet PHY and MAC layers (for Arria 10 devices) ?

What are the limitations ?

Thanks in advance,

Yaron

Hi,

Please go through the Triple-Speed Ethernet (TSE) for your requirements. Please find the below link, where they stated that Arria 10 supports 10/100/1000 Mbps TSE. Hopefully, you will understand once you finish reading TSE user guide.

You can use based on your choice for PHY like RGMII or SGMII interface with in build Marvel PHY chip or External PHY chip according to your design.

Thanks kkr for your quick reply !

One point that is not clear for me is that it seems that this IP includes the PCS and the PMA layers. Why than should I interface to a Marvel or another external PHY ? What is missing in this IP or Arria 10 FPGA that is present in the external PHY ?

Thanks,

Yaron

That's good,

Based on your question, what I understood is you would like to use Ethernet Interface (RJ 45). In this case, You need to connect with in build/external PHY. Please go through the user guide at least chapter 4, which is functional description. At the end, you will able to know what are the optional blocks. If you don't have time, directly use reference design and try to explore.

Some reference designs:
