getting started with FPGA

hi all 

 

just putted uboot kernel and filesystem on the cyclone 5 machne.. 

i am wandering how can i start working with the FPGA? should i download software (e.g Quartus)? or are there other alternatives??

yes, go to altera website, select suitable version of quartus for your computer, download it and install it...;

Altera FPGA generally will need Quartus II software to work with. You can download the Quartus II software from https://www.altera.com/downloads/download-center.html. There are web edition (free) and subscription edition (paid). Subscription edition will provide compilete feature of Quartus II.

In term of the development kit, probably you could consider the Cyclone V GX Starter Kit which is relatively cheaper as a start.
