Hi,

we are at kratos are working with Aviram Evron the Altera FAE engineer in Israel.

I am using Quartus version 15.1

I installed Modelsim version 17.1 ae edition.

I placed the license file and set the parameters LM_LICENSE_FILE and MGLS_LICENSE_FILE correctly (see attached picture).

when I launch the modelsim I get fatal error "unable to checkout license.." ( see picture as well)

I launched command 'lmutil lmdiag' and gives the same path as in the environment variables windows(see attached picture)

As you can see I have in the system variables LM_LICENSE_FILE in addition to the user variable LM_LICENSE_FILE I created - is that a problem?

Any idea why the software cannot ID the licence? (attached is also the license file)

please help,

Noam Fishman

Hi,

You can download ModelSim-Intel FPGA Edition (includes Starter Edition) and try.

Hi,

Have you checked the link shared.

1.Download license.dat file on the computer you want to run model-sim.

or

2.You will need to edit the .bashrc or .cshrc file in your login and add the following variables there

export LM_LICENSE_FILE = <path to your license.dat file>

export MGLS_LICENSE_FILE = <path to your license.dat file>

export PATH = $PATH:<path to modelsim executable>:<path to quartus tool executable>

Save and close the .bashrc/.cshrc file. Start a new terminal and you can invoke the tools .

Have you purchased a license for Intel-ModelSim? It is not included in the Quartus license. Your license appears to be for "maxplus2".

yes,

1.Can you open the model-sim by double clicking directly.

Because some times i was also getting the same error. by running it as administrator it is solved.

Do you have license?

Hi Anand,

As an inquiry to see if we need the ae version our Altera FAE Aviram Evron generated us a license file for 60 days.

He said that it is also good for modelsim as well.

For diagnostics purpose, can you generate for me a temporary license file to see if it is this problem?

I am attaching the license file I have in ZIP format.

please check it.

my machine address is: FCAA1426F8CE

thanks,

Hi Noam,

1.Are you getting this error after running it has administrator?

You can Contact FAE Aviram Evron he can help you on license.

or

Download SE version of Modelsim and try, to check whether you are getting same error so that you can find out the problem.

Hi Anand,

1. yes, the same error. my administrator tried all possible runnings with the same error.

2. Our FAE Aviram refered me to you as he cannot help me with the license problem.

my SE version works fine but it does not fit my goals.

it crashes when simulating (I have a very heavy simulation that exceeds the SE limits).

3. In previous thread I sent you my license - can you please check it?

4. Also for diagnostics, can you please send me license for NIC ID: FCAA1426F8CE?

thanks a lot for all the help,

According to your license file, you *do not* have a license for the paid for version of Intel-ModelSim - that's why it is not finding the license.

ModelSim is a different feature to Quartus, and it is not covered by the Quartus license.

If your license file supported ModelSim, it would include a feature called "alteramtivsim mgcld" which it does not.

It looks like there's no Modelsim AE feature included in the evaluation license. There should be a feature like msim*** or alteramt***.
