IEGD driver acceleration potential on US15W

Hello,

I've been testing with a US15W platform with Atom Z530 CPU.

I've generated and tested a few versions of IEGD driver (including 10.1) and have failed to see any benefits on hardware accelerated playback.

I hope I am missing something obvious but here it goes.

I'm testing on either XP Pro or XPE.

A few questions:

1) I see no mention of SP3 for the XP family. Am I to assume using SP3 or XPE (Windows Embedded Standard) are not supported and should not be used?

I see a lot of mention of h264 MP4 hardware decoding, implying that the IEGD driver (as opposed to say the GMA500 driver) can tap into the hardware decoding features of the chipset.

But I have now compared playback of such media and less than HD media repeated times between the GMA and the IEGD driver set and seen no improvement with IEGD.

For this e-mail, my test media is encoded as h264/MPEG-4, at 1920x1036 resolution, with about 9772 kpbs.

2) While I dont expect the CPU to handle this, should I see ANY improvements in playback using IEGD with everything optimized?

3) Are codecs installed relevant? What codecs should I use to fully take advantage of IEGD?

I have a Combined Community Codec Pack and COREAVC.

I use Media Player Classic.

4) Does the media player matter? I also use VLC with no benefit.

5) Can someone briefly outline a test method (including comments on codec, player and media) I can use to show that the IEGD driver is in fact adding any benefit to my platform?

The codec used IS critical. If the codecs you have utilize DXVA (and I suspect they do NOT) then acceleration should be mostly automatic.

The codecs that we know are accelerated on US15w are available from Cyberlink with PowerDVD (these are as fully DXVA accelerated as possible) but to get PowerDVD to use acceleration properly you need to ask for the OEM version optimized for US15w and Atom. Hopefully they will be able to help you with getting that version.
