Intel VT and PAE with i5-2500 or 2500k

Hi

I have to buy and install two additional server systems as hosts for virtual machines.

MS Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 32-bit is intended for the both machines, but the new computers should be ready for newer operating systems e.g. Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 or Windows 8 because of a planed migration.

The current servers work with i5-750 processors without any problems.

Question 1:

The machines need more than 4 GB RAM per host.

So, the Physical Address Extension is necessary to recognise the amount of RAM by the 32-bit operating system.

Do the i5-2500 and i5-2500k processors support the PAE, or not ?

Question 2:

Are there differences regarding the Intel Virtualization Technology between our current i5-750 and the new processors?

Thanks in advance

Question 1: Yes the processor supports PAE.

Question 2: There is no difference between t he Intel® Virtualization Technology on i5-750 and newer processors, the feature works the same way.

Hi Adolfo_Intel,

thank you very much for your answer. So, I can expect that there will be no problems to use the processors for our systems.

But I'm still unsure, because I found the datasheets of the processors today, and it seems that the PAE is not supported by the new processors.

Please take a look at the http://ark.intel.com/compare/42915,52209,52210 comparison. As you can see the row named "Physical Address Extensions" is empty for the new processors.

I don't know. Maybe it is a mistake. Is it possible that the data sheets are incomplete?

Please don't be angry with me, but could you say me where do you have your information from? How reliable is the information?

Thanks in advance

Ps.

I have a few additional less important questions: What are the advantages of the vPro Technology and of the Intel VT-d? Or with other words, what is better i5-2500 or i5-2550k? And What are the "Embedded Options" of the "old" i5-750 Processor?

It seems that the website is not up to date, but keep in mind that the PAE is a feature that is part of the Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) on this type of processors.

So PAE has to be supported by the processor in order to be able to take advantage of the EM64T.

Since this processor supports EM64T, it means that it does also support PAE.

Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-d) allows you to run multiple operating systems in virtual mode.

Intel vPro Technology allows you to remotely control your computer via third party software.

I would suggest checking the following links for information on how the vPro technology works:
