T9550 running at a reduced FSB speed...

Hello,

If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd really appreciate it. I just received my new Dell 1737 this weekend, and I ordered it with the T9550 Core 2 Duo processor. All specs I find on this processor say it's a 2.66GHz processor with a FSB speed of 1066MHz, but both Ubuntu and Vista reporte the processor at 800MHz. Does anyone know why this is? The only thing I can think of is that the processor FSB is automatically matching the RAM's clock frequency. Good ol' Dell doesn't allow you to view/change the processor or RAM specs in the BIOS either...lol. Anyway, if anyone has any answers, I'd love to hear 'em...Google was pretty much worthless here.

Thanks,

- Justin

Let me first say that I am not an expert on processors, but I think I know why you are seeing reduced speed. The http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37130 Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9550 makes use of Enhanced Intel® Speedstep Technology, a really cool technology that provides perfromance when you need it, and reduces power when you don't. Check out this http://www.intel.com/technology/product/demos/eist/demo.htm animated demonstration of Enhanced Intel® Speedstep Technology.
