Hi,
I've got a Dell XPS 8100 with an Intel Core i7 860 processor. Yesterday I ran the Intel Processor Identification Utility and the reported clock speed was shown as 2.92 GHz against an expected clock speed of 2.80 GHz.
I have run the utility a number of times and the result is always the same - 2.92 GHz. Can anyone explain this ?
Obviously, I'm not complaining, I'm just curious ;-)
Regards,
Paul Lynch

It's likely due to a Turbo Boost feature of the i7-860 processor. Under load, the processor may run faster than its default frequency if the CPU is within its thermal lmits. 2.93 GHz is i7-860's maximum frequemcy when all 4 cores are active.
