Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Graphics/Update Problem

I have been stressing over this for quite awhile now. I am trying to play my game (Amnesia: The Dark Descent) and whenever I do, a window pops up saying Fatal Error: Renderer # 0 could not be initialized! Make sure your graphic card drivers are up to date. Check the log file for more information.

So went to my device manager and I checked if it was up to date. It said it was, so I went to your System Identification Utlity and I can't seem to get it to work? So I followed your directions for checking the driver info and saved the information to file. This is what it said:

For record my computer is a Gateway ms2273 Laptop. Running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

I went to your download center and went through the selections of my os and downloaded the latest driver:

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows 7* 64, Windows Vista* 64 (zip) It says in the description that it supports my video card, but when I run the set up it says: The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer. Set up will exit. I have also contacted them and am waiting for response. Anything I can do to fix this?? REMOTE ASSISANCE WOULD BE GREAT IF AVAILABLE

Amnesia doesn't work on Intel cards because Intel offers very little (right there next to "none") support for OpenGL, which are the libraries this game is made with. So, short answer, no, you won't be able to play the game with Intel drivers.

HOWEVER:

I have an Intel card and I completed the game, I managed to do this in Linux. I have written a very basic tutorial for doing this which you can see here:

http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-6763.html http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-6763.html

(I'm Eurochild on those forums)

Please note that you need to have some basic knowledge of Linux in order to do this, or have a friend who knows what he's doing.

PS: You'll also need the Linux version of the game, or at least you should get the executables somehow.

Still the proble remains - installer won't update, even though the description claims it can do so. I tried to update, and got no luck. Running Series 4 @ VAIO laptop.

I would add another thread for this, but since this frigging site wants me to register, which I'm not gonna do for one single question that probalby won't even be answered here, and provides no contact information for Intel company, I'll just make my statement and question here:

On Intel Graphics Series 4 laptop solution there is this color correction panel on display settings. It has a gamma slider. Alas, they have made very amateurish mistake on designing it - it works the inverse it should!

When I put the slider to gamma 2.2 for example, which is standard for sRGB, the curve bends upwards! Anyone can check with google image search how the gamma curve should look like at 2.2.

(This is why I chose that number to demonstrate. I know that I won't get any display to show luminance properly by just turning gamma control to 2.2)

Does this or any other future update address this problem? All it would take is just very simple adjusting of the function. This is ridiculous.

Regards

M
