Hello,
Try to update the bios of the board using the Pentium 4 cpu.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5KPL-AM&product=1
Then try the Q9400 CPU.
All the best,
Regards,
Aryan.

Hello,
Since this is an Asus motherboard, i cannot advise on the specifications related to the boards, I am more an Intel Product Guy.
You will need to check the board specs and memory compatibility.
Try to see if without any memory module on the board what happens.
I mean only Power supply, motherboard + cpu Q9400.
Does the board issue any beeps?
All the best,
Regards,
Aryan.

I apologise - I'm sure I posted here.
The situation was resolved eariler this afternoon. The Kingston RAM that I had was a higher frequency, so when I booted up with just that RAM in, it worked. I've currently ordered replacement RAM for the 1gig that I lost, and am considering cooling options such as the Spire Themax 2. Thank you for your help.
