Any advice on getting Minecraft to work on windows 8 using a Mobile 965 express chipset, like many users trying to load the game results in the message of bad video drivers please update.... the system is fairly old (Compaq A900 with a Pentium Duel core and mobile 965 graphics running the show)

So far ive updated via the correct route using the update utility software with no prevail and tried a couple other ideas ive seen on varies forums related to the issue. Any ideas on either how to get it to work or just a straightforward explination NO it will never work would be great

Hi tom,

What happens is that the graphics controller is not compatible with Windows 8. The graphics driver that is installed is a generic one provided by Microsoft. Since it is generic not all of the graphics features will be available. I recommend using any of the operating systems that are in the following link http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-025616.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-025616.htm

Thanks!

"No, it will never work."

That's official, by the way.

I couldn't figure out why someone with

an older version of the laptop I have now

could play it but I can't. It's the chipset.

As for the OpenGL 2.0 - you'll pretty much

never get the latest support through windows

update. Here's the link for the older driver...

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18228 Intel® Download Center

Run it, and say yes when it points out that

it's an older driver. I know this is an old forum

post, but others may come looking for this like

I did.

Minecraft still won't work, but you'll have the

highest OpenGL the chip can support.

EDIT: The link I provided is the Win 7 x64 version.
