hello all, i have an acer extensa 4220 with an intel celeron m 1.73 ghz/1m/530 478 pin. the socket p is 479 pin. i tried the T5300 but the laptop will not start up with the chip inserted and have notice the pin placement in the corner that they are in different positions. i would like to upgrade my cpu as the 1.73 is slow.

can i upgrade to the T2330, T3400 or the Pentium M SL7SL?

thank you for your help

you should be able to place any CPU out of these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2_Duo Core 2 Duo (T5xx0, T6xx0, T7xx0, T8x00, T9xx0)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2_Quad Core 2 Quad (Q9x00)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron_M Celeron M

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel Intel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_Dual-Core Pentium Dual-Core (T23x0, T2410, T3x00, T4x00)

taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_P

you can also check out Intel's ARK for any processor since the Pentium I,

here's the T3400 for you, socket P, should be fully compatible.

goodluck .

well as i said i tried to install the T5300 but my laptop would not start up as the pin configuration is different although both do have 478 pins.

thank you for your reply, i am awaiting the T2330 and hopefully it works..

can i do anything to get the T5300 to work or is it impossible?

weerab,

there seems to be a great deal of confusion here,

there seems to be 2 celeron 530's which one of is M and the other is simply called a celeron 530.

the 530M is a socket M 478 and the 530 is a socket P, they are both released with a 1733 clock speed just not pin compatible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Celeron_microprocessors# Celeron_M.2FCeleron.2C_.28single-core.29

with the wiki article and crossed with newegg,

the T5300 processor is compatible with socket M (or PPGA478) apparently and not socket P,

(yet to add to the confusion, it seems that socket P is also called socket PPGA478..)

and so, by what you'r saying, your acer isn't compatible with it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors# Dual-Core_Notebook_processors

the T2330 and T3400 should be compatible with your socket and are listed as socket P processors,

the Pentium SL7SL is listed as socket 479 and dated at 2005,

socket P was issued only at 2007 so they should not be compatible.

you can check out further processors from the list, it might come in handy,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors# Dual-Core_Notebook_processors

notice processors listed either as socket P or released after 2007 as earlier should be compatible only with socket M, the micro architecture is said to be core for all and not any netburst processors, so the only performance difference should be cache and clock speed.

this should be it .
