When could we start to see 8 core laptop processors?

With Skylake and Cannon Lake coming out do you think we could see 8 core laptop processors? It seems with the lower power requirements it would be more practical and feasible to do so.

And if not with then when? With 4k gaming a push for 8 core would be helpful, and all the video rendering that is done in this new generation of video makers.

The trend in the market of mobile systems is actually going towards lower power consumption while maintaining or increasing processing power, for example with Ultrabooks*. Let's also consider that at this moment only some Intel® Xeon and Intel® Core i7 Extreme processors have eight cores or more, and these platforms are not exactly known for very low power constraints.

Even though the processor is usually the most important component, an increase in cores will arguably help the present usage models since most the processing power for such tasks you mentioned will most likely come from the GPU rather than an increased amount of cores.

In any case, Intel is constantly working on improving the built-in graphics controllers as well as our processors.
