not sure why but i'm running a i7-6700k unlocked processor which is quad-core but i'm only seeing 2 cores and when i run cpuid it shows up as only 1core
i'm running windows 10 pro
16gigs of ram
asus maximus viii hero
is there any reason as to why this would only show 2 and not 4 cores

Have you checked if all the cores are enabled in your BIOS configuration? You can run the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool Download Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool to check if are enabled or disabled, but in order enable them you need to enter your BIOS configuration.
