4TB HDDs only recognized as 1.6TB even after being made as Dynamic and GPT

Hi all, I'm running into a snag with setting up my new 4 x 4TB HDDs in Raid 5. I recently purchased the HDDs and have spent the past few days trying to set them up correctly. When I set them up in Intel Rapid Storage Technology's enterprise (Intel RSTe) as Raid 5 they work perfectly, showing me that Raid 5 is in parity with ~10TB of total storage across the drives.

Afterwards, when I log into Windows 8 64bit and go through the Disk Management system, setting the drives up as Dynamic and GPT, they only appear as ~1.6TB in size.

The same issue persists when I go to Storage Spaces to try and Raid them that way.

I've updated my BIOS to the most recent version, Enabled Raid in the BIOS, tried to install updated versions of the Intel RSTe (it says my operating system is not compatible or that I have the most recent version) and tried to install updated versions of Asus' Sata Drivers (says I have the most recent version).

It seems like a simple driver issue since the Intel RSTe recognizes the Raid 5 but Windows does not. I've tried to download multiple versions of the Intel RST and RSTe drivers but I constantly receive a "platform not compatible" message. Any suggestions?

My specs:

Windows 8 (64 bit)

Asus P9X79 with most recent BIOS (4701)

i7 3930 @ 3.2GHz

16GB Ram

2 x 240GB Corsair SSDs (Operating System)

4 x 4TB Western Digital Blacks HDDs (Data)

I think I've figured the issue, but I am still unable to resolve it: Since the Intel RSTe is recognizing the 4 x 4TB in Raid 5, I assumed that there was a driver issue somewhere along the way. After updating the BIOS to the most version and having the problem persist, I went through my Device Manager to try and locate the Storage Controller: Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controller. The SATA RAID controller is from 2010-08-07 and its Driver Version is 8.6.2.1022 (super old). However, when I try to update the driver, it tells me that I am using the most up-to-date version of the driver (I know it's not true since ASUS has a driver from 2013). Furthermore, when I try to uninstall the driver, it won't allow it.

Suggestions...?

Thanks for joining the Chipset community.

The latest Intel® Rapid Storage Enterprise version is available here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22502/eng/IATA_ENU.exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=22502 IATA_ENU.exe

Just make sure you have installed the latest version and if you get any prompt message, continue with the installation.

I would like to know if the Intel® Rapid Storage software is detecting your RAID 5 configuration, please take a screenshot of the Intel® Rapid Storage tool and attach it here.

Allan.

Holy Moses! It worked! I tried to install that previous driver but didn't since the following prompt message came up:

As for the screenshot, you can view it in the original post, however, I will repost it here:

All in all it seems the best answer was as you suggested: "The latest Intel® Rapid Storage Enterprise version is available here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22502/eng/IATA_ENU.exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=22502 IATA_ENU.exe" and to proceed through the prompt.

Thank Zeus!

Asus P9X79 Deluxe

Intel 3930K i7 3.2GHz

Windows 8.1 (at the time of my previous post, and Windows 7 before starting any upgrades)

I had since then upgraded to Windows 10/64bit to no avail. I was finally able to update chipset by updating Win10 and trying a few different installers. Still could not install ANY version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I then finally toggle one setting in my Asus BIOS under SATA config: Set the RAID type to IRST, rather than RSTe. I then could finally install the most recent Intel Rapid Storage driver. Upon plugging my 4-disk RAID 5 in and booting, 2 of the drives are "Missing" and RAID is failed.

I'm currently recovering my old Win7 to boot and try to fix the RAID. Once I get back to starting point, I have to figure out how to update a few systems in the office to Win10 (and chipsets/Bios/etc) without failing the RAID 5's in those systems.

Thanks!

RAID failed status and a non functional RAID structure. The only way to fix it would be, re-create the array.
