How to read current level of tx ring?

Hi,

is it possible to read the current level of the tx ring queue of the NIC? I tried with ethtool and have found with "ethtool -d" the register

0x03430: TDFPC (Tx data FIFO packet count) 0x0000001B

Does it reflect the current queue level?

Do other options exist?

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with IGB driver.
