is it possible to "lose" half a dual processor?

The windows gadget only shows the processor going to 50%, never below. This just started about a week ago. Is it possible to only be utilizing half of a quad processor????

ITS ELECTRONICS OF CORSE IS POSSIBLE , BUT HAVE YOU CHECKED THE AFFINITY OF YOUR CPU A PROGRAM COULD OF MAYBE CHANGED THE SETTINGS OF IT ,E.G TURNED HALF OF THE CORES OFF

and yes its possable to only be using half you can turn 1 ,2 and 3 of the cores off so it is possible

task manager from one of the drop down menu options

and maybe try going into the windows Reliability and performance monitor it will thell you every time a program crash or something failed in your system
