Realsense tech for science purposes: sensitivity and so on

1) Can I use SR300 to scientific purposes in medicine? In the future I would like to present my research in article.

2)

a) Sensitivity(not accuracy) of depth sensor is lower than 1mm for 50 cm distance?

b) refresh frequency of depth sensor?

c) resolution of depth sensor?

d) Quantum efficiency for rgb and IR sensors?

3) Can it works with processor i7 7700HQ?

Sorry If I ask the silly questions, but I can not find information about this in official documentation.

Hi Konstantin Purtov,

Thanks for your interest in the Intel® Realsense™ Platform.

These are really interesting questions I will need some time to investigate in order to give you an appropriate answer. In the mean time could you be so kind to elaborate how you are going to use the SR300 in your medicine research.

Now, regarding question three, in here http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/emerging-technologies/intel-realsense-technology/000020964.html System Requirements for the Intel® RealSense™ Camera SR300 you will find the SR300 hardware requirements.

By the way, in the datasheet (http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/intel_realsense_camera_sr300.pdf http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/intel_realsense_camera_sr300.pdf ) I found resolution information of the SR300 in Table 4-1: Depth and Infrared Data Formats, is this what you are looking for?

I will be waiting for your reply, have a nice weekend!

Best Regards,

First of all. thank you Jose P. and MartyG for fast response!

I got almost all I want.

I would like to try SR300.

It can be used in many medical areas such as thremor detection and pulse detection.

So I decide to buy it instead of kinect.

For the future readers (according to datasheet):

sensivity less than 1 mm. because of depth output is float32.

Depth resolution 640x480 for 60/30/10 fps.

RGB sensor Quantum efficiency - unknown.

IR sensor Quantum efficiency - unknown

Have a nice weekend, too!

Glad Jose and I could be of help!

I did some further research about the quantum efficiency question. Whilst I couldn't locate a definite answer, there were references in news sources in March 2015 to the company Towerjazz providing IR sensors to Intel for RealSense that have a quantum IR efficiency of 3.5-micron pixel size. It didn't say which camera. It likely wouldn't be the F200 or R200 as they were already released at that time. So the SR300 is a strong possibility for that time-frame.

1. Others have used RealSense for medical purposes.

(a) An app was developed for using the camera in sterile environments.

(b) RealSense's 2013 predecessor the Perceptual Computing Camera was used successfully for medical imaging. RealSense is an evolution of that camera, so its principles are applicable to RealSense too.

(c) Here is a discussion on the feasibility of using RealSense for analyzing particles.

(d) RealSense can be used to give a rough estimate of heart pulse by analyzing the color of blood flow under the skin.

2. For the sensor information you requested, I recommend following Jose's advice of looking in the data sheet document.

3. Your processor is a 7th generation Kaby Lake architecture. The minimum for the SR300 is 6th generation Skylake. so your PC meets the SR300's minimum specification.
