What's the difference between Intel GPU driver versions 22.x and 21.x?

I have an Intel HD 530 GPU and after updating to latest Windows 10 Insider build my GPU driver version was 22.20.16.4659 dated 4/13/2017, after I encountered an issue with a program checked Intel website for driver update and I downloaded driver 15.45.19.4678 which installed as 21.20.16.4678 dated 5/17/2017.

I checked this page (https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005654.html Understanding the Intel® Graphics Driver Version Number) which details Intel GPU driver version number but it is still unclear what's the difference between version 22 and version 21? The page says version 20 is for Windows 10.

Versions 22.x are ready for Cannonlake's Gen10 graphics which had been announced in April.

You can't write new drivers overnight, it takes months and months and probably it's just sloppiness when Intel issues a public 22.x driver...

I'm not sure if that branch already supports shader model 6

If some Skylake/Kabylake user wants to try, check out https://github.com/Microsoft/DirectXShaderCompiler GitHub - Microsoft/DirectXShaderCompiler: This repo hosts the source for the DirectX Shader Compiler which is based on L…

Hello smljoju,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

The driver version 15.45.19.4678 and driver version 21.20.16.4678 is the same driver; the version 21.20.16.4678 and 22 is how Microsoft defines the driver version, there is nothing special on that number is just how the operating system sees it.

Regards,
