XTU crashes when trying to 'Show Values', does not remember profiles

Hello.

I've had this problem for several months and several versions of XTU now. Seeing how no one else has it, I wonder what I am doing wrong.

Basically, I can't switch between the profiles, because you have to press 'Show Values' before you can hit 'Apply', and the moment I do that, the program crashes.

Below are the files that may contain data about the crash.

C:\Users\Nevill\AppData\Local\Temp\WER10F1.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml

C:\Users\Nevill\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1CB5.tmp.appcompat.txt

C:\Users\Nevill\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1DCF.tmp.mdmp

Don't know whether it's related or not, but XTU does not remember profiles too, so I have to enter required settings manually each time I restart the system.

Hello Nevill,

Thank you for contacting Intel Communities.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU). Can you please provide the following information to better assist you?

  • Current Intel® XTU version:
  • Brand & model number of the motherboard.
  • BIOS version:
  • Processor:
  • Operating System:
  • Did it use to work without any issues?
  • Was there any software update or change before the issue started happening?

In addition, please check the following threads:

In order:

1) 6.2.0.27, but the bug has been around for the entirety of 2017, regardless of the release

2) I use Eurocom X5 (based on Clevo P177SM), with Intel HM87 (Haswell) Mobile Express Chipset

3) BIOS version: American Megatrends Inc. 4.6.5, 09.05.2013

4) Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz

5) Windows 7 x64

6) A couple years ago when I had issues with overheating and used the app to underclock the CPU. This particular issue wasn't present then.

7) Can't think of something definitive. In 2 years the software changed a lot. The drivers are newer, for one.

I do not use App pairings, so I am not sure how relevant are the threads you listed to the problem.

Hello Nevill,

The profiles are used by the app pairing option also, so when you want to run a program with a specific configuration, the system will remember that configuration, this is why I suggested reading the threads.

As for the Intel® XTU crashing, can you please provide the values you are setting up?

Please also provide a step by step to try to replicate the issue.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Values I'm changing:

Core Voltage Offset 0 V -> -0.060 V

1 Active Core Multiplier 34x -> 32x

2 Active Cores Multiplier 33x -> 31x

3 Active Cores Multiplier 32x -> 31x

4 Active Cores Multiplier 32x -> 30x

But that does not matter. The moment I select a Profile - any profile, even the Default one - and press the button 'Show Values', the process 'PerfTune' crashes. Does not matter if I change anything or not. Run the app, go to 'Profiles', select any profile, click 'Show Values', crash.

Hello Nevill,

I tested the following:
  • Dell XPS 15 with an Intel® Core™ i7-4712HQ Processor (Haswell).
  • OS: Windows 7*, 64 Bit
  • The Intel® XTU version is 6.2.0.27 (latest).
I was unable to replicate the issue you are having.

I would recommend checking for a BIOS update (if available) and reinstalling the OS.

Regards,
