the update utility didn't return an Intel specific driver. it's a Dell M7710 and there's nothing in their update utility either. i don't recall ever seeing an Intel component using anything but Intel drivers. any advice would be appreciated.

Hello VanityPlume,
Thank you for contacting the Intel community.
Yes, it is ok for you system to use Microsoft driver, however, you can download the latest graphics driver for your system here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26836/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45-?product=88350 Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.45]
The Intel® driver update utility does not work properly on some OEM systems like yours, so for this reason I recommend downloading the driver manually.
If you get an error when installing the driver, you can try installing it manually,
Please see how to https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and Windows 8*/8.1* and if you are using Windows® 7 check https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html How to Manually Install a Graphics Driver in Windows 7*
I hope this can help.
Best regards,
Ivan U.

Hello VanityPlume,
The driver for your processor is the graphics driver, there is no other driver for the processor, the rest of the drivers for your system will depend on your computer model and they will need to be located at your computer manufacturer.
The graphics is integrated on your processor; you can see the processor specifications here:

Best regards,
