Does HD 4600 support dual-link DVI?

I heard that HD 4000 didn't support dual-link DVI and could not output 2560x1440 resolution via DVI.

Is it still true for HD 4600? Or there is any change?

Based on my

research, it seems that our graphic controllers supports Single Link DVI onlyand I am afraid to say that Intel has no plans to release one that supportsdual link at the moment.

I'm using a DELL U2713HM monitor which is only abble to display 2560x1440x60Hz using the DVI dual link connexion (no way to use the HDMI link).

It seems to me that Intel HD 4600 Windows driver doesn't activate DVI Dual Link mode, but leaves the chipset in single link mode.

That's pretty weird since under Linux Ubuntu, the driver used by Xorg perfectly manages dual link mode and displays 2560x1440x60Hz on the same hardware configuration !!!

I tried the latest offical Windows drivers : 10.18.14.4156, update the BIOS of the motherboard (ASUS H87M-E), but nothing solved the problem.

My configuration :

• Motherboard : Asus H87M-E (VGA, HDMI & DVI Dual Link connectors, NO Display Port connector !!!)
• Graphic board : Motherboard Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
• Monitor : DELL U2713HM
• OS : Windows 7 64 bits (6.1.7601)
• Graphic driver : 10.18.14.4156
• Motherboard BIOS : 2101
• Video BIOS : 2170.0
• Device Revision : 06
• CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz

The only way to use 2560x1440 screen resolution using the DELL is to define a custom mode 2560x1440x41Hz that can be managed using the bandwidth of the DVI Single Link mode.

Since the HD 4600 chipset CAN manage the dual link mode under Linux, can you ask to the developper team to activate the DVI Dual Link Mode in the Windows driver ?

I say "your graphic controller really support 2560x1440x60Hz", and I suppose that it can only do that by enabling dual link DVI mode !

Just to proove what I said, check the following snapshots of my DELL U2713HM.

The first one under Linux Ubuntu. The DELL control panel says : 2560x1440@60Hz.

The second one under Windows 7 with maximum I can reach by tweaking frequency. The DELL control panel says : 2560x1440@41Hz.

This is just exactly the SAME hardware configuration. One running under Linux, the other under Windows.

Can you explain that ?
