I am planning to run intense image post processing software (Microscopy, ImageJ like) and 2D deconvolution. Speed is a factor here, assuming I get enough RAM and a high end graphic card such as FX 4800. Is there difference among a regular Core 2 Quad such as Q9650 or an I7 900 series or a Xeon processor? What exactly the Xeon is marketed for. And for image processing and deconvolusion, do hyperthreading and the turbo boosting really help? I do have Q9650 computer but deconvolution takes some times.
