I am trying to figure out why my Core 0 (4 total) runs at 100%, rest at around 10-20%. I installed and ran the Processor Diagnostic Tool and it failed the CPU frequency section.
I had my computer "tuned" in the BIO provided by Asus, from Default to Performance. Now i've returned everything back to default, ran test again and it still fails.
Anyone got any good advice? Is the core damaged, or is there something wrong in my setup?
Screenshot of one of the spikes http://puu.sh/mN7Mp/8911bf026b.png http://puu.sh/mN7Mp/8911bf026b.png. I have these issues while streaming, or then playing Terraria (no other game than Terraria, what i've noticed)

Hello, Enimas:
I was checking the Terraria support page and they added what they called "Multicore Lighting" this was added in the patch 1.2.3 and it is a feature you can enable at the options menu, I would like you to check this option out and see the behavior of core 0.
Look for the feature added and make sure you have this or higher version of the patch: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/1.2.3 http://terraria.gamepedia.com/1.2.3
Also, make sure all cores are enabled a BIOS level.
Another options you can check is the power management for your CPU.
How to check this?
1. Access the power options in your computer, found in control panel.
2. Go to "Change advanced power settings" the window below should appear.
3. Look for Processor power management, as in screenshot below.
Additionally, you can reseat your CPU cooler to make sure it is properly installed. Re-applying thermal paste could also help.
CwaniAK, have you tried removing completely the i Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool from your computer and the re-installing the tool? I think this could be an installation error.
I look forward to your outcome with this.
Regards,
Esteban C

Hello:
You can disable this test in the tool, please do it and run the test again to check if it can finish or encounters with any additional issue.
Have you tested with third party CPU health software?
This could be either a problem with the CPU or the tool.
I look forward to your reply.

I changed the settings in Terraria to use quad core functions, no change.
I already checked those power settings from other topics i found, so they are according to the info you gave.
I also went in to the BIOs and found the core being on "synchronize all cores", removed it and put all 4 cores on "auto".
Now i managed to do a full computer virus scan (this has also overheated/crashed my core), and it went smoothly. Quite a few spikes up to 95%, some 100%, but didnt get bluescreen.
After the BIOs change Terraria still is at occasional 100% on Core 0. I will reinstall the core during the weekend, hoping its thermal paste issue. What other reasons can there be?

I have only tested it with previus version of PDT. And back then it has passed all the tests. Although it has decteced wrong cpu frequency - it showed 5.2Ghz. It seemed like it was multiplying wrong bus speed (133 instead of 100) that would explain why it have shown 5.2 (39*133) instead of 3.9 (39*100).
Now it also fails on PCH test: Error while retrieving SATA Device Information from OS

Hello, Enimas:
My recommendation would be to perform a BIOS update if not in the latest version already and the other option would be to test your system with a different Motherboard or contact your mobo's manufacturer for further troubleshooting.
PCH would be related to a board function.
I look forward to your outcome with this.

I have already updated bios to newest build i got from MSI today.
After reinstalling Rapid Storage Technology PCH test is not failing anymore. I have reinstalled Serial IO, Chipset Device Software and Management Engine Components aswell.
But i'm geting failed CPU Frequency test still.
When i have increased % High/Low Tolerance in test to 100% (not even 99, i has to be 100% on both) only then it is a pass.

Hello, CwaniAK:
It should be set to 5 both, are you using the latest Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool?

Of course it should be set to 5%. What I was saying is that CPU Frequency test ONLY passes IF both High and Low Tolerance is set to 100%, it fails otherwise.
Yes, I'm using leatest version of PDT.
In linux version of PDT (its older version) test is a pass, and as i suspected: it detects wrong bus speed (133 instead of 100) which ends up in wrong detected CPU frequency.
Seems that I cant compile leatest version on linux, without Intels c++ compiler, so i cant debug it and say where and why this test is failing.
Anyway it looks like a software issue, becouse there is a bunch of people with 6600k and the same problem.

Hello, CwaniAK:
I understand, just wanted to check 5 was set in your Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool.
Let me get this issue into investigation, I will be providing you with the outcome on this.
