pro 1000 Mt nic

Hello friends,

I have purchased a bunch of pro 1000 Mt nic recently. When transferring large files, the connection is smooth. When transfering a number of smaller files, such as doc or JPG, the connection would drop after a few minutes , I.e. not pingable. If I unplug and plug the network cables, the connection would be restored. Has anyone encountered such issue before ? thanks

Hi kusanagiyang1950,

Thank you for contacting Intel.

For intermittent connection, you may try to update or re-install the driver.

You may refer to website below for more adapter troubleshooting guide:

Hello Sandy,

So far I have tried

Replacing MB

Switching to another NIC of same model

what bothers me the most is that the transfer would succeed with large files, but fails if it is a bunch of pictures and video clips .... anything I missed ?

Hi kusanagiyang1950,

Thanks for your reply.

You may use the website below to identify your specific MT model and download the latest available driver:

http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-012904.htm Network Connectivity — Retail Intel® Ethernet Adapter PCI Device ID and Part Number List

If you are having difficulty finding the drivers, please provide your adapter's serial number and operating system you wish to install the card on.

Example of adapter's serial number: (Format: 12-digit 5-digit 6-3 digit)

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hello again,

I believe it is a corrupted EEPROM issue. When booting up BIOS, it states "...The LAN adapter's configuration is corrupted..."

When booting up Linux, it said "... Invalid MAC Address".

Is there a way to fix corrupted EEPROM? Thank you~

p.s. my serial number is

Hi kusanagiyang1950,

Thanks for your reply.

I can't find your specific adapter model. However, you may try to update the boot agent. This can help recover the Eeprom error. The Boot Agent Tool is available for download from the website below: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19186/Intel-Ethernet-Connections-Boot-Utility-Preboot-images-and-EFI-Drivers Download Intel® Ethernet Connections Boot Utility, Preboot images, and EFI Drivers

2 Ways to update the Boot Agent:

1. Extract Preboot.exe, copy the files BootUtil.exe and BootIMG.FLB to a DOS boot disk. Boot up to DOS and enter command line BootUtil -UP -file=BootIMG.FLB.

http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/bootagent/sb/cs-008212.htm Intel® Boot Agent — Intel® Ethernet Flash Firmware Utility to Upgrade, Enable, or Disable Flash

2. In Windows* - you'll find the steps here:

http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/bootagent/sb/CS-008362.htm Intel® Boot Agent — How to Update Intel® Boot Agent

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Sandy

Hello Sandy,

I have tried to use the "bootutil" to flash the EEPROM several times just now. They gave inconsistent results each time, sometimes successful, sometimes failed. Afterwards, when booting into Windows, the NIC disappeared, and sometimes it came back after a few seconds to be reinitialized. Does this mean the network card is damaged hardware wised? Thank you

Dear kusanagiyang1950,

Thanks for replying.

It is possible that the network card has hardware failure.

Another option is to try the earlier version of boot agent since the Pro/1000 MT is an old adapter model.

Attached: BA1327L2.zip

Extract the file and use BootUtil to load this file.

Bootutil -Nic=x -up -file=BA1327L2.FLB

In case this does not fix the issue, please contact your place of purchase for further assistance.

Sincerely,

Sandy
