Why does Intel persist on releasing .EXE drivers only?

From Windows 3.0 to Windows Server 2016 datacenter...ALL editions and probably all future versions - ALL will use Plug'n'play based on .INF-files to install just the right driver. This makes it easy to install drivers, add new drivers to Windows PE / DaRT / etc. AND to ensure that just the right driver is installed.

If one goes to Intel.com, chooses support, Wireless network driver for any new card...only .exe-files are found. Even so called .ZIP for IT administrators can't be found using the selectable menus, one has to use Google...only to find that even the IT administrator files (.ZIP) contains .EXE-now, making it impossible to include drivers in PE projects, ensure the right drivers etc. by checking the .INF file.

WHY OH WHY does Intel keep on doing this?

The *Driver64* and *Driver32* packages are not .exe's.

We understand you're looking for the .INF files for your wireless adapter.

It's important to keep in mind that only consumer operating systems are supported by our wireless adapters. We do not provide drivers for Windows* PE nor any Server OS.

The drivers provided through our download center are generic versions, our recommendation is to always use the driver versions provided by the computer manufacturer. Our generic drivers will not take into consideration hardware nor feature customizations made while integrating the adapter.

If you're looking for the INF files, you may download the IT Admin packages found in our article ID 00017246, as provided by @Gize2. This article is always kept up to date. As an alternative, you may extract the .EXE downloads using a third party file compression tool such as 7zip* or WinRAR*.
