Scaling options limited, in my Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family control panel.

I have a hand-me-down Toshiba Satellite E105 with Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family and Windows 7 64bit. When I go into my graphics control panel, under Display, I click on Scaling and it only has "Customize aspect Ratio" and nothing else. I have tried updating the GMA driver and nothing has changed. Because of poor vision I have my laptop connected to my HDTV with an HDMI cable, so I can have a much larger view. I need to utilize my whole TV screen with a lower resolution (1400X900), but I am trying to get rid of the black borders, so I'd like the scaling option to work !! HELP . . . PLEASE?

Hello lavenderlady,

Please bear in mind that this can be a limitation by your system manufacturer and your best contact support would be with Toshiba as they are more familiar with this system components and how all of them interact with each other. Some computer manufacturers require customized and validated drivers for your specific computer model.

However you can try the following:

I'm sorry if you tried this already, you can see how to solve scaling issues here:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005529.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005529.html

Check the option that says "The Windows* desktop is smaller than my display screen. How do I fix this issue?"

You can also, try installing the generic Intel driver, you can download it here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22521/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-Driver-Windows-7-64-Windows-Vista-64-exe-?v=t Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, Windows 7* 64, Windows Vista* 64 (exe)

I suggest to uninstall the driver you have installed first and then install this driver, if you get an error installing the Intel generic driver you can try installing it manually, please http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html How to Manually Install a Graphics Driver in Windows 7*

Check with the TV manufacturer, you might need a driver for your TV and check with them if this configuration is supported. See if with this TV you can set the resolution via the menu integrated into the monitor.

Assuming you have a windows based pc, I would go to start -> control panel -> Display. From there you can adjust the screen resolution.

I hope this can help.

Best regards,

Ivan.

Ivan, it is the INTEL graphics card control panel that isn't working. I checked the Toshiba specs and it showed this particular graphics card. I tried EVERYTHING you suggested and nothing has changed. If you read my original question, you will find all the info. My TV does NOT have a driver, it is a basic 40 inch HD 1080p TV.

If you have tried Intel generic drivers and customized drivers from your computer manufacturer and still does not have an option for scaling this means the graphics is locked. Bear in mind that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can add, remove, alter or change features in the Intel® Graphics according to their system designs. So, I suggest you to check with your laptop manufacturer to see if there are any options on your system to get that.
