Hello city35:

Thank you very much for providing the results of the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool.

Normally, we should be able to verify the clock speed of the processor, the expected and the one detected, for some reason that information is not showing in the report.

Could you please run the tool again in order to verify if we can get that information?

Are you doing overclocking?

How often is the PC going off by itself, after a few hours?

Besides the fan that came with the processor, are you using another cooling solution inside the case?

Do you have the option to use a different processor on your board or to test your processor on a different board?

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

Hello Alberto,

please find bellow the new test.

the CPU is clearly overlocked!!!

Expected CPU Frequency: 2.93

Detected CPU Frequency: 3.56666

But, i didn't made any modification. I don't know how to do that.

Can you explain, how I can recover the normal situation??

thank you

Hello city35:

Thank you very much for letting us know that information.

Normally in this case what we recommend to is set the BIOS to defaults, that should be enough to stop the processor for getting overclocked.

There are some scenarios where the board under the default BIOS settings still overclocks the processor, in that case if after trying to restore the BIOS to defaults the problem persists, the best thing to do will be to get in contact with the manufacturer of the board:

Gigabyte's phone number: 1 626-854-9338

Gigabyte's support site: http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards

Hello city35:

Thank you very much once again for letting us know those details.

At this point the next thing to do if you have the option of course will be to swap parts, either to test your board with a different processor or test your processor on a different board, because the problem could be related to either one of those components.

If there is a PC repair store close to you, they might be able to do that for you and swap parts to find out the root of the problem.

In some cases by adding another cooling solution or fan the problem gets fixed, but that will depend on the case you are using and if it has the option to do that.

Could you please provide the part number of the memory RAM you are using?

You can see it on the stick itself, this is in order to make sure the memory is fully compatible with the processor.

If you are using more than one memory stick, please test the PC with one memory stick at the time, this is in order to rule out a possible problem with the stick itself.

Please let me know the results of trying the steps above.

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

Dear Alberto,

I think that the values of the Detected CPU Frequency is the cpu freq when the test is ended. It means, if the test is wrong, the Detected CPU Frequency is the freq at the last test value, and if the test is ok, the Detected CPU Frequency is the expected one, because the cpu has time to come back at its normal value.

I cleaned the heater of the CPU and I replace the thermal grease.

I tried the Intel extrem tuning utility and the cpu stress test. the cpu freq is allways varying (1.2 - 3.0 Ghz) and the cpu temp is allways at the maximum 99°.

do you think that if I change the fan of the CPU, I can obtain a better temp regulation?

thank you

Regards

Christophe

Hello city35:

Yes, as a troubleshoot step that is always an option, to test the PC with a different fan could fix the temperature problem, also it will help us to rule out a possible problem with the fan itself. Based on the report from both the diagnostics tool and the XTU it seems to be the processor is in fact getting overheated, and yes you are right about the detected CPU frequency, that is how it works. On the processor diagnostics tool the value for the temperature where it says " Received 1 degrees below max" that value should be higher than 1, to make sure there is no overheating problem.

If you have the option to use another fan please do that, same thing if you can test your processor on a different board or your board with a different processor.

Please let me know the results of using a different fan and if you have the option to swap parts.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi Alberto

soory for the late answer, but I had no time until now to work on this problem.

I changed the CPU cooler by a new one and now it works well.

thank you for all and this topic can be closed
