XTU score reproducibility or cpu deterioration?

I am trying to OC my i7-4790k on Asus Z97-Pro Gamer board. My routine is changing some parameters followed by stress testing and then scoring by XTU if a stable profile was found. All my stable profiles are saved in BIOS so it can be loaded easily. What I find is that same profile produces progressively less score. We are talking about, eg, from 1049 to 1024 in a couple of days.

Is it due to cpu deterioration? It is scary to see the scores dropping so fast. I use 1.25v core voltage most of the time and core temperatures are below 65C. Only on some occasions it got to 1.375 v and core temperature reached mid 80's

Is XTU score reproducible? It is not suited for comparing different profiles if the scores are not reproducible.

Any thoughts?

Hello Omhar,

Thank you for joining the Intel communities.

I did a test with the Intel® XTU and I saw some variation like 620, 622 and 624, the temperature changed as well a little bit, from 92°C to 92°C or 93°C but I did not experience the problem you have, I suggest contacting your motherboard manufacturer to see if they have some other settings or something similar that can help you.

Also you can ask more questions at:

Hi Ivan,

Thank you for reply to my post. My bigger concern is cpu deterioration. Do you think torturing cpu using 1.375 core voltage and reaching 80C core temperature for 200 hours has already caused perceivable deterioration in the doped silicon of CPU? If so, I'll stop finding more profiles immediately.

In this case, if your processor has been overclocked it will get damage sooner or later, even though it is an unlock unit.

Voltage out of the processor specifications will cause processor damage and high temperature, also it will cause instability at some point. I'm not 100% sure if this is causing that issue but we will need to take that into consideration.
