Intel 4400 3840x2160 Resolution Issues

I recently bought a 4k Hisense TV. When I connected my computer to the display, small green dots appeared across the entire display. I tried updating my drivers, but nothing changed. I looked at the resolution settings. Recommended resolution for this display is 3840x2160, but when I changed it to 1920x1080, the dots all cleared up. I tried all the other resolutions above 1920x1080 and they would have even more green dots than the 3840x2160 resolution. Anyone know if this is a hardware problem or limitation? I thought it was strange that the recommended resolution was having problems...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello AStevens ,

Have you tried to test the system with different cables? Please make sure they are good quality.

What is the video connection used? (HDMI, DisplayPort...)

It would be really useful to have some important information from your system to better assist you. Please provide me with the SSU report from your system.

The Intel® System Support Utility is a tool that automatically gathers up required specs requested above.

How can you get this report?

-Access: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

-Download the utility

-Scan your system with the utility

-Export the report (hit next and then save) and attach it to your answer with the advanced editor option (reply button and then check upper right corner)

Hope I can hear from you.

Regards,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

As far as the cable goes, I only have one and sadly don't know anyone that has the same cable type that I can borrow. I don't believe it is a cable problem as all resolutions above and below 1920x1080 have the same problem.

The output port on the laptop is a Micro Display Port and connects to HDMI port on the TV. I know it is not the HDMI port on the TV, as I have tried other devices on that port and they all worked fine.

I have attached the SSU report.

Hello AStevens ,

Thank you for the info provided!!

Would you please provide me with the brand and model of the adapter you are using to connect the laptop to the TV?

After checking the specs and drivers in your system, I noticed the Graphics drivers are outdated.

Please try the latest driver for "video" here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-12-9q33/drivers/advanced http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-12-9q33/drivers/advanced

If the problem persists, try the generic drivers from here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26229/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81497 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26229/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81497

In case you get an error message with that driver, please completely disconnect the system (laptop) from the internet and follow the manual installation steps: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html

Please let me know how it goes.

I don't know the brand of cable being used as there are no markings, it is just a generic brand from amazon that I bought a couple years ago.

The TV model is HISENSE 50HC, you can find it here.

https://www.amazon.com/Hisense-50H8C-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01E6PGSGY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479859623&sr=8-1&keywords=Hisense+50 https://www.amazon.com/Hisense-50H8C-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01E6PGSGY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479859623&sr=8-1&keywords

I ran through all the different update methods you provided, though the initial update did download and successfully install, it did not fix the green dot problem. I tried the manual install, but it said I already had the most recent update.

Hello AStevens,

Thank you for the information provided.

Were you able to test the system with drivers 4501 or OEM drivers?

I recommend you to test the behavior of the system with another cable, it is possible that the video signal is compromised from one end to the other while using adapters (Mini Display Port to HDMI) our recommendations in those terms (when it is required to use an adapter) is to get an active adapter (Mini DP to HDMI active adapter to be searched), that has a specialized chip that converts the video output from A to B which can help with these type of issues.

We can confirm the max resolutions supported by Intel HD Graphics via HDMI are: 4096 x 2304, 3840 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 24bpp

Please note this is the capability of the processor alone, the OEMs or system manufacturers can limit these settings while integrating a system for quality and performance reasons.

Here you can confirm the resolutions supported by Intel HD Graphics 4400: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics

Look for: "Display and Audio Features Comparison"

Please let me know how it goes.

I have tested with all the different drivers you suggested, however none of them worked.

Sadly I haven't had an opportunity, and can't afford to get a new cable/adapter right now. I know the problem is not with my TV as I've tested other 4k devices on it since my last posting, so I'm guessing it is the cable or port on my computer, as you said before. Running the display to the tv, there is quite a bit of lag with fast moving things, however when running on my native laptop display, there are no problems so I'm pretty sure processor isn't the problem.

Thanks for all your help!
