outdated manufacturer drivers

Hi,

Is it a good idea to replace manufacturer's drivers which come with preinstalled Windows 10 with actual drivers from Intel website? I consider that the Intel graphics drivers I receive from Acer are outdated (writes me current version 21.20.16.4550 and on their support site I can't see any links which refer to newer drivers). When I downloaded Intel Driver Update Utility it notices me about manufacturer's modified drivers.

What do you suggest?

On my Acer rig generic drivers work fine, actually Acer does no customisations except from using SUBSYS_IDs

Thank you so much for a nice guide, but I'm still not able to update it to 4627 version. It stuck on 4550 from 11/11/2016. When I'm attempting to update it a different way, I always get a warning that it couldn't allow me to start manual re-installation. I'm trying to do it on Acer Aspire S13.

This method works and drivers will successfully install, but after OS restart it returns back to previous state. I think I have to figure out how to disable Windows graphics driver auto updating.

If you want to remove the Manufacturer driver to install the

latest Intel Graphics Driver follow these steps:

  1. Download the latest graphics driver from Intel

    (the.zip not the .exe)
  2. Extract the .zip with the driver to a new folder

    on your desktop.
  3. Uninstall the Manufacturer Graphics Driver:
  4. First disconnect yourself from the internet by

    turning airplane mode on.
  5. (W-10) Right click Start, select Settings,

    select Apps.
  6. Scroll down the programs list and uninstall your

Intel HD graphics. (do not restart).
  7. Right click Start, select Device Manager, Select

Display Adapters, right click Intel HD Graphics and select Uninstall Device. Mark

the box (delete the driver software for this device) and uninstall.
  8. Restart your computer.
  9. (W-10 will install its own Basic Graphics

Driver) Right click Start, select Device Manager, select Display Adapters,

right click the Basic Graphics Driver, select Update Driver.
  10. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
  11. Click Browse, select the folder where you

extracted your latest HD Graphics Driver by Intel.
  12. Mark the Include subfolders selection box and

    click next.
  13. The basic driver will update to your latest Intel

    HD Graphics driver.

Be Happy!

Hello vittsjo,

I understand you would like to know if it is or not a good idea to install our generic graphics drivers on your Acer* computer.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

If the computer is currently working fine then there is no need to update graphics driver. If you are having graphics issues in your computer then you can try installing our generic graphics driver. If our generic graphics driver does not work properly the best option would be reinstalling the graphics driver Acer* has validated for your computer.

You can also try installing graphics driver version using the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY
