Intel HD Graphics 3000 Driver 9.17.10.2843 Bug - DELL Windows 7

The glitch I noticed is that if you scroll through the all programs menu, some programs or folders will only show as a transparent piece of the start menu, but can be fixed by either a bit more scrolling or hovering over that section with the mouse to make the program or folder reappear (happens often but not all of the time). Not a glitch in Windows 7. The driver version that I had prior where this glitch doesn't happen is 8.15.10.2361

Hello jweaver0312,

I understand that when you scroll through the programs menu some programs and folders look transparent.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

Hi Fred,

According to driver update utility it says I shouldn't download it due to manufacturer customizations. Would their be any real danger from downloading and installing the generic version directly from you guys? Even the latest version that DELL posted was 9.17.10.2843

Hello jweaver0312,

You can try installing our generic graphics driver, and if our driver does not work correctly you can then reinstall latest graphics driver Dell* provides on their website.

We supply generic versions of graphics drivers for general purposes. Computer manufacturers can change the features, incorporate customizations, or make other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging. To avoid potential installation incompatibilities, we recommend that you first check with your computer manufacturer and use the driver software they provide.

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Regards,

Fred

Hey Fred,

I just wanted to let you know that the issue persists but it happens less. However, when it does happen, more items (programs and/or program folders) in the Start Menu > All Programs disappear. Dell took a look at it before and claimed that they replaced the screen and the Intel 3000 Graphics Card that was in the machine with a newer Intel 3000.

Hello jweaver0312,

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

If possible please attach a screenshot showing the exact issue you are having with the Start menu.

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Hi Fred,

It's kind of hard to get a screenshot because the software I use makes the start menu close as soon as I try to use it and whenever I try to get it to replicate for the screenshot software, then it doesn't do it. Here is the .txt file.

Hello jweaver0312,

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

I would like you to try installing this other driver version https://downloadmirror.intel.com/24696/a08/win64_152823.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/24696/a08/win64_152823.zip

As soon as the driver has been downloaded on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, restart the computer, and then reinstall the driver I provided using the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY

what kind of Dell computer are you using (desktop or laptop)?

I'm using my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop computer w/ Win7 SP1 (original driver was v8.15.10.2291) but I have v9.17.10.4229 of the Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000 driver in the links Intel provided.

It's ok to install the "generic" graphic drivers from Intel when using desktop computers that use Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000. On laptops, that could be a different story as the PC manufacturer

versions are sometimes better than the Intel generic ones.

I have an Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop (2011 model). Someone else I was speaking to actually said that it could be a problem in how Dell configured it when it came time for my laptop to get its HD Graphics 3000 driver. I'm going to try the generic to see how it goes and worse case scenario I'll put Dell's customized driver back on. I went on Dell drivers and downloads and the latest version they have for my laptop itself and by the service tag is 9.17.10.2843. Did Dell website have that driver available for you or was that downloaded from Intel directly?

What is the hardware device ID of the Intel HD Graphics 3000 device on the Dell N5110 laptop, jweaver0312?

Read this Dell page on how to check the hardware ID in Device Manager:

http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/4/SLN121527/how-to-find-drivers-for-devices-using-a-hardware-id?lang=EN How to Find Drivers for Devices Using a Hardware ID | Dell US

On my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop computer, the Intel HD Graphics (2000) hardware is using

the following hardware ID:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_04ED1028&REV_09

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_04ED1028

You may also want to report about the graphics problem in the Dell Community forums & see if they can help:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/ Laptop - Dell Community

so far, Dell only offers v9.17.10.2843 of the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver for the N5110 laptop & not anything newer.

Even with the current DELL version this problem atill happens. The best DELL was able to do was replace the older card with a newer HD Graphics 3000. Since it still happened after that they then said it's an Intel problem and it must be a glitch in the drivers. Now currently since it is an out of warranty system they refuse to do any more to it. Here are my Hardware ID's:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&SUBSYS_04B01028&REV_09

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&SUBSYS_04B01028

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&CC_030000

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&CC_0300

Hello jweaver0312,

After doing some additional research I found out that the graphics controller is on the list of discontinued Intel® Graphics Products. We are no longer developing driver updates for that specific graphics controller. This link will provide more information about it http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005733.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005733.html

Since your laptop is no longer under warranty what I can recommend is keep using latest graphics driver we have on our website since the issue happens less often with that driver.

Let me know if you have or not any other inquiry.

Regards,

Fred
