I want to be able to run some cad programs on a laptop for my civ. engineering degree. I was wondering if the intel HD 3000 with an I5-2410m processor be able to handle that load. I wont be running a lot of cad, it will mainly be used for my other classes but I want it to ba bble to handle a couple of projects.
What computer would you suggest to be able to run cad addiquately yet around $700-800

Hello,
I suggest you to check directly with the CAD software developer to see if the computer and the video controller will meet the requirements to use that software or check if they have tested their software with our Intel® HD Graphics controllers.
In addition, you can also check the buying guides available here:

This combination doesn't work for me (Architecture) and resulted in the firm wasting a lot of money on computers that can't "walk the walk" when it comes to CAD.
Take the other posters advice and check carefully if you are going down this route. Better still if you can TEST the machine thoroughly!
