Hello

I just purchased the i7 6800k processor. It is connected to corsair h115i cooler. Just at start up in Bios the temperature is 95 C :O.

Under stress it goes up to 100 degrees with prime95 etc. I repositioned the cooler but still no improvements. Is the CPU defective?

Hello rocker.pg:

To answer your question, yes, it could be a problem with the processor itself, but also it could be related to the board or even the cooling system you are using.

When the PC gets freeze or it starts to throttling those are symptoms of overheating and if it fact is reaching 95 that is risky, the Intel processors have a feature that when they get too hot the PC will go off by itself to avoid any damage on the parts.

Make sure the fan is properly attached to the board.

The tools you used are 3rd party tools, we do have a tool to test the processor that it is very reliable, it does an overall test on the processor including the temperature, second option to the left to install it, if it passed the test the processor should be fine:

Another thing to do if you have the option of course, is to swap parts, to test the processor on a different board, or use your board with a different processor to find out for sure what might be the problem.

The processor has 3 years of warranty, so if it is defective, you can always try to replace it with the place of purchase, or we can always do that for you.

If you are interested in the replacement, please get in contact directly with us through chat, email, phone or online support, you just need to select processor on product type and you will get those options:
