Windows 10 and Dual Band ac 7260 adapter driver incompatability

HI, I have a Dell Inspiron 17 PC. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and all was good. This weekend I installed an update to Windows 10 and now I can not get out of airplane mode nor turn on WiFi. I've spent days with Microsoft and they say it is because the Intel Dual Band Wireless ac 7260 drive is not compatible with the latest Windows 10 update. I have the latest driver installed. Is there another driver available or another solution? Thanks.

As for the Airplane Mode, it is a native feature of this OS and once it is on, it will turn off all wireless connectivity including the wireless adapter as you can confirm here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/what-is-airplane-mode What's airplane mode? - Windows Help and this is what may be impacting your connection.

I had the same issue after after my PC updated and in order to help you with this, please do the following:

1. Change the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Properties: Go to Control Pannel >> Device Manager >> Network Adapters >> Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, then right click on it and select Properties.

2. Select the Power Management tab and uncheck the option that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and click OK to confirm. Note: Some computer come with a physical wireless switch on/off button. If that is the case and it is off, you may not come successfully of the Airplane mode. Turn it on.

3. Disable and Enable Network Connections: Open the start Menu >> Settings >> Network & Internet >> Wi-Fi >> scroll down to Related settings >> Change adapter options and then right click on the wireless connection and Disable it than wait about 10 seconds and turn it on again by right clicking on it again and then Enable.

Another option would be to Uninstall the Wireless Adapter and Reboot the PC. You may need to be connected via an Ethernet cable in order to continue with Internet service.

1. Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", if it is installed. When prompted, choose the option to "Discard settings".

2. In Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Adapters, right click on the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and Uninstall it. Make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

3. Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager and if an older driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

4. nstall the Intel® Wireless driver. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, make sure to customize the installation and install all the 3 driver components.

I thanks. I did all that and it still isn't working. It's weird when I run the diagnostic it says Wi-Fi is turned off, the solution is to turn WiFi on so I click on the link it actually turns WiFi on for a few seconds then off again when it gets to the verifying step? Any ideas? MS support has been no help

It could be that after the Windows* upgrade the OS is not recognizing the hardware/software switch in order to allow youto connect and disable the airplane mode and it could be related to Dell* system itself. First, I downloaded and installed the 18.40.0 ProSet 64 for Windows 10 (on a windows 10 64 OS). However, the wifi was still unable to connect, while all my other devices are running fine on the wifi connection. I tried this uninstall method and was not prompted with the "un instal device software" option and the driver would continue to re-register after a scan or reboot. Furthermore, my wifi will actually show connection sometimes, but will either drop or not connect at all. Please need help on this. I've been searching for a solution all day. The device says its running properly too so I'm lost.

Was the wireless adapter installed later or is it installed by factory?
