graphic options - output to - missing (HD Graphics 4600)

Hi, everyone!

Graphic option "output to" is missing when I right-click mouse on the desktop. It happened recently, can't say exactly when.

When I click "Display Settings" and "Multiple Displays - Detect", it doesn't detect my smart tv.

When I open "devices", I do see my TV under list of "other devices".

When I click window+P and try to choose "project - duplicate" or "extend", nothing happens.

But when I play a movie in windows media player and click "play to - cast to device - Samsung smart TV", it does stream and I can watch it normally. Therefore, I suppose it's nothing wrong with hardware, wiring...etc..

It's extremely annoying, because I need to duplicate my display and output it to my TV to work on my computer.

Please H-E-L-P !!!

Hello Marine,

I understand your Dell Optiplex 7020 is not detecting your Samsung* Smart TV.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Please also attach the Intel® Graphics Driver Report. This link will show you how to generate it https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html

Please generate both reports with the Samsung* Smart TV connected to the computer.

What type of video cable are you using between the computer and the TV?

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Hello Marine,

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

I would like you to try updating some of the computer drivers in a specific order.

Please install this driver first, and then restart the computer http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C1XJ9 http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C1XJ9

Install this other driver, and then restart the computer one more time http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=X37VM http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=X37VM

Download the graphics driver that is on this link https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26682/eng/win64_154034.4624.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26682/eng/win64_154034.4624.zip

As soon as the graphics driver has been downloaded on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, restart the computer, and then reinstall the graphics driver with the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY

Hello Marine,

I am sorry to hear issue persists after updating the graphics driver.

If possible try different TV/monitor which is just to make sure the issue is not related to the video port on the TV itself.

If possible also try different video cable.

You may also try updating the BIOS of the computer. You can download latest BIOS from this link http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=YFDN4 http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=YFDN4

For me it's not possible right now to try it with another tv.

Video cable is fine, I checked that already.

I'm not that keen on playing with BIOS of the computer 'cause I'm not that good with such things.

Problem still persists. Probable solution might be to buy another graphic card (another brand), which I don't prefer, but if this still stays like this for some time, I'm considering this option...

Hello Marine,

I am sorry to hear the issue persists.

I would like you to try the Windows* Media Player option called "Play to - cast to device – Samsung* smart TV" with the video cable unplugged. There is a chance the computer is connecting to your Samsung* TV through your home network instead of through the video cable.

Depending on how the TV is configured it will or not automatically detect HDMI signal. Please access the TV settings and check if there is any option to force the TV to read HDMI input.

There are some displays that come with multiple HDMI ports (HDMI input and HDMI output). If your TV comes with multiple HDMI ports please make sure the video cable is connected to an HDMI input port.

Let me know your findings.

Regards,

Yes, You were right... when I unplugged a HDMI cable, I could still stream video to TV through my home network.

TV automatically detects.

I tried 3 different HDMI cables that I'm sure are working perfectly. No luck.

There are 4 HDMI ports in my TV, I tried all 4 of them with each of 3 cables I have. No luck.

The thing is when I bought my computer and a TV, I simply put cables in and it worked perfectly for 2 years. I could simply right-click my mouse on the desktop and choose "output to". Now I don't have such option anymore. Problem occured during the time I didn't use it (several months ago), and if I'm not mistaken, windows updated themselves. I don't know if that's the problem, but I can tell You it's very frustrating!

Hello Marine,

Is this the computer model you have? http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/business/smb/merchandizing/en/Documents/Dell-OptiPlex-7020-Technical-Spec-Sheet-FINAL.pdf http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/business/smb/merchandizing/en/Documents/Dell-OptiPlex-7020-Technical-Spec-Sheet-FINAL.pdf

According to the technical specification that computer model does not come with DVI port. Please let me know if you are using different type of adapter or if the computer model is different.

Mine looks a bit different. And please accept my apologies, You were right, I've made a mistake, it's not a DVI port that I have, it's a DP port.

Hello Marine,

I see you mentioned you know the video cable is working, but I do not know if you have tested or not the Displayport* to HDMI adapter on different system. At this point all that I can think of would be an issue with either the Displayport* to HDMI adapter or an issue with the video port on the computer itself.

Hello Marine,

I was wondering if you had the chance to test the video adapter on a different computer or contact the computer maker for a possible hardware issue.

I bought a new DV to HDMI adapter. And there it was... right click - graphics options... and on top "output to" option! "Woo-hoo", as H.J would say. ...weeeell, not so fast. I still could not get a picture to be copied to my smart TV (maybe it's not that smart... or maybe it's still smarter than me). And while trying to make it work, I accidentally clicked on "output to - TV". So, now I have a second problem...

As soon as I plug HDMI in, graphic card switches to TV and I don't get any picture on my TV, while my monitor shuts down. If I pull the HDMI cable out, picture shows again on my monitor.

Because there is no other display (TV cable unplugged), I can't roll it back to the option where I can choose duplicate displays between computer and TV.

I feel a "solution" where I use a huuuge axe on my computer and my tv is getting closer...

Can You help me, please? Please...

This is my "updated" status right now:

Same computer, same monitor, same DV to HDMI adapter, same HDMI cable... but different smart TVs (both the same Samsung model).

TV "A": if both cables (monitor VGA and HDMI) are connected with computer, I don't get picture neither on monitor, nor on TV. As soon as I pull HDMI out, picture on monitor shows up.

TV "B": works perfectly, it doesn't matter which display do I use, monitor or TV, I can choose "output to" however I like it, clone, extend... etc.

TVs have 2 different HDMI input ports. On TV "A" I tried both. No, luck. You could probably say it's a simple conclusion, TV "A" is broken. Somehow I don't think so, but even if it is, how could You explain that as soon as I put HDMI cable into my computer, picture from my monitor disappears and I don't get none. As soon as I pull it out, picture in monitor shows up.

Since it's the same computer, settings are the same. Both TVs have same settings, too (autodetect).

Is it possible that computer changes settings as soon as it detects that TV "A" is connected? That's the one that was connected when I accidentally clicked "output to - TV" yesterday. Can I somehow revert it back?

P.S. I uninstalled and reinstalled graphic card driver, nothing changed... still the picture in my Dell monitor disappears as soon as I put HDMI cable back in my computer.

Hi Marine,

Thank you for updating this post. It is sad to hear you still have this problem.

TV and computer configuration will change every time you plug any video cable, it will detect through the video BIOS the appropriate cable and graphics settings once you connect the TV or the monitor.

This cannot be reverted back because it will auto-detect video configuration with any cable you connect to it.

I was hoping I could set priority, VGA over DP/HDMI. Since the last set I accidentally made was "output to - TV", now everytime I plug tv in, it becomes the only output display. So there is no way at all?

If I could only make this stupid TV to cooperate...

Update!

I managed to get it to work, but only using HDMI port "on the side" of TV numbered HDMI1 and HDMI2, that I used for soundbar connection. It does work, but I can't get resolution to fit. Whichever resolution I choose in my computer, it's always a bit too huge for my TV, it always "spils" outside TV screen's edge. Couple of months ago, when I used HDMI4/DVI (while it was still working), I haven't had such problems, I simply streamed picture from computer to my TV and picture way always exactly from edge to edge no matter which resolution.

Do You have any idea how to adjust resolution to be just the right size?

Thank You very much for Your help!

Hi Marine,

I am glad to hear this is working using HDMI port.

In order to adjust screen resolution, you need to check monitor model number and the native screen resolution. Additionally, please check the link below to learn how to change the resolution.
