Upgrade from Intel P8600 to Q9100

Hello

I have a laptop with Chipset PM45 and Motherboard Quanta 3624 (Hewlett Packard)

I tried to upgrade from Intel Core 2 DUO P8600 Socket P (478) to Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9100.

In BIOS with version F.46 and release date 08/25/2011 the Q9100 is recognized and every BIOS Check i made passes.

If i leave the laptop in BIOS to see if the clock works, I hear that the cpu fan works at 100%.

When I am trying to boot windows, the laptop freezes in the startup screen.

Also sometimes a BSOD with an error NMI_HARDWARE_FAILURE appears.

I installed again the P8600 and the laptop works fine.

Any suggestions?

Have you verified with HP that their BIOS actually supports this processor?

I have the official manual from HP with the supported product numbers for this laptop.

P/N: VC005EA

HP Pavilion DV7-2010ev

Last year i upgraded it from T4200 to P8600 and worked fine.

That's fine. But, have you verified that the Q9100 is supported by the HP BIOS? Are you using the correct BIOS revision?

These are questions that only HP can answer for you.

When i wanted to install P8600 i had a contact before with HP and they suggested me a list with CPU. Q9100 was listed as the P8600. Then they gave me the manual too.

I will contact them again to be sure.

So you believe that the problem is with the bios?

There may be a minimum bios revision needed to support the Q9100.

You may want to check your bios revision and see what the latest from HP is.

Please report back with what you find.

Also, other possibilities: heat, faulty processor, other incompatibility.

HP told me that Q9100 should work with the same BIOS and Motherboard.

Above you can find the service manual.

Did you purchase the processor new or used? Do you have access to another Q9100 for testing purposes? Can you reset/reload the bios defaults?

I bought it new from ebay. Seller told me that tested it.

I can't have another to test right now.

I reload and reset BIOS many times.

"New" processors are not individually tested by sellers. My recommendation is to initiate a return and refund.

You take a huge risk purchasing a processor on auction sites.

Is there any posibility that this processor and my ram cannot work synchronized?
