CHIPSET TEMPERATURE PROBLEM?

Hi!

I'm needing some support for my motherboard / chipset

It's a DP35DP, Chipset G33/G31 express, CPU: Q9650 @ 3GHz, 4Gb ram DDR2-800, and two hard drives 250 and 300Gb

Bios is: DPP3510J.86A.0517.2009.01.07.2203

OS IS WINDOWS XP-SPCK 2

When I run Intel Desktop utility it's hardware montior displays very hot temperatures for ICH: 93ºC and for MCH: 75ºC. (199ºF & 167ºF)

Is that normal?

I took off the cover of the PC trying to help cooling the chips but nothing changed.

Should I have install some kind of special cooler for the chipset?

Has anyone of you got a problem like this?

Is it a problem at all?

Thanks,

Hi the MCH is fine, the ICH is one degree over teh recommended threshold, see here under thermal considerations: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15051/eng/DP35DP_TechProdSpec.pdf http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15051/eng/DP35DP_TechProdSpec.pdf

You could try adding one of those little fans to it, or more case fans...

You couls also try updating the BIOS : http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+3+Series+Chipset+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DP35DP http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+3+Series+Chipset+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DP35DP

Also you could try another PSU (i know random) but i have seen high temps on both CPUs and motherboard compoennts caused by the PSU before.

Thanks a lot!

PSU voltages seeems to be slightly different from typical values:

12V-----------> 12.474

5V------------> 5.25

3.3 ------------> 3.321

1.3 ------------> 1.24

1.1 ------------> 1.127

I'll try first to update bios since it's easier than adding fans.

After that i'll add extra cooling.

Regards !!

I finally added a couple of little fans directly on the heathsink of each chip and it works awsome.

Tempearture never rises over 67ºC after Intel desktop utilities hardware monitor.
