i7 950 (not Extreme) + Asus P6T + 2Ghz RAM?

Using standard XMP profiles, the Asus P6T mobo supports 2Ghz memoryspeed and so does the Kingston HyperX PCR16000 but can the regular i7 950 work with it (am having trouble at the moment)? And if not, what is the maximum I can get the ram to work at and not fry the cpu? Is it enough to decrease the cpu multiplier?

This is the article I based my buy on but missed the 'Extreme' tag on the cpu...

Hello; The memory types that are supported by the i7-950 Processor are DDR3-800/1066 it will not support 16000 memory. You can check your processor specifications here: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37150&code=Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+i7-950+Processor+%288M+Cache%2c+3.06+GHz%2c+4.80+GT/s+Intel%C2%AE+QPI%29 http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37150&code=Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+i7-950+Processor+%288M+Cache%2c+3.06+GHz%2c+4.80+GT/s+Intel%C2%AE+QPI%29 Also make sure that the voltage of the memory doesn't exceeds the 1.5 volts , you can confirm this information on page 23 on the processor data sheet: http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/320834.pdf http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/320834.pdf Finally the maximum memory supported by this processor is 24 GB, however, check with the desktop board manufacturer the maximum amount supported by the desktop board
