Age of Empires Microsoft video bars

I don't understand when I run this game Microsoft Age of empires 2 Conquerors it takes me to the menu of the game and it is what looks like a 4:3 on my 16:9 .

tried a whole bunch of setting and it always changes my desktop but when the screen launches it takes me to a DOS window? If i am calling it that right. its just not windows and the only way for me to get back is ALT + Tab to windows. I change a bunch of things and I still can''t change

All I see is two 3 inch black bars on each side of the screen, there must be way to strech it out

You might be facing a compatibility issue with Windows® 10, bear in mind that this game is old and the requirements are based on previous operating systems (Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT). I would recommend contact Microsoft in order to verify with them if there is some kind of a patch that can provided such resolution for the game.
