Processor Upgrade Help

Let me start this off first by saying that I do not have large amounts of money which is why I am trying to build this computer up in the first place. Otherwise I would just go buy a new one.

I have a Emachine W3653 desktop.

I have a 450W Corsair PSU

2gigs of Ram

NVidia Geforce 8800 Graphics Card

ECS 945GCT-M3 (V3.0)

The problem I do have is obvious. The factory installed Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6Ghz processor. I thought that I was going to buy the 2.6ghz E4700 which is socket 775 which is after all what I have on my mother board. I was told by a guy on another forum that I cannot use that one. Can somone please tell my why I cannot use it and give me a list of ones that I can use?? I do not have an Xbox or a PS3 but I want to be able to play games like GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Far Cry2, and others. I already tried GTA IV and it runs like crap and I was told it was my processor. Please help.

Hi,

To know what CPU is compatible you need to check the motherboard manufacturers website, which i have happily done for you: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/CPU_Support_Model.aspx?detailid=719&MenuID=69&LanID=0

Hye,

It seems that the installed proc is a Celeron E1200: is it right?

The ECS website says that with the bios version 07/05/22 , the motherboard can support the E4500 CPU.

If you use the Ark.intel tool , you will se the differences:

http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=30781,34440

I think you can upgrade with more powerful cpu (you have tho check the voltage) but there is a enough leap between the 2 above cpu that can give good result.

I am not a gamer but I guess the most important is also the GPU!
