Black screen and vertical lines every few seconds with new i7 6700 skylake.

Hi,

I recently built a new system. I have the following hardware...

Intel i7 quadcore 6700 skylake cpu

asus rog formula viii motherboard

hp 6835 wireless printer

Gateway fhx2300 hd monitor connected via hdmi. This monitor has beautiful color and clarity.

western digital 6tb hard drive

ripjaws 32gb memory

windows 7 professional 64 bit.

I primarily use firefox

My system at this time is basically empty. So there is very little for conflicts. Since I built this system I have had display issues that have made this system unusable.

Every 5 seconds or less my display goes to black or will have blue and yellow vertical lines. ( those are the colors from my firefox theme picture). After much research it has led me to an intel issue.

I'm really disappointed after spending $1300 to build this system I can't even use it. The black screen happens randomly. Sometimes it is as soon as it boots up and other times you can use the system for 20 minutes and then it starts. Once it occurs it happens consistently every 5-10 seconds. Rebooting does not resolve this issue. This issue happens using firefox and happens just sitting on the desktop with nothing running. I have tried changing the cords from hdmi to displayport, but no difference. I have the latest intel 530 driver and it is even worse than the last one. I have the latest firefox version as well.

Any help I can get to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. I am currently a nursing student and it is a great hindrance to not be able to use my computer when I need to access course material.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about this issue with your new computer.

Please make sure you are using HDMI to HDMI video cables, no adapters.

Also, just to confirm, test the latest graphics drivers version https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26563/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45- 4590

Check if the memory meets the processor requirements DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

The monitor is plugged in hdmi to hdmi. There is no adapter being used. The current intel driver is 4542. I installed the 4590 a few weeks ago and the problem was worse. I had to roll the driver back. The memory is G.skill ripjaws v series ddr4 3200 (pc4 25600) 2x 16 intel z170 platform desktop. Under the bios settings it shows that memory 3200 mhz 1.504 V it has no option to change the voltage it is taken right from the memory. The memory lists maximum bandwidth as 2133mhz in the bios. FYI... this monitor worked just fine under windows 7 prior to this new build.

Thanks for your help.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated....

Thank you for the information.

The 3200Mhz memory working at 1.504v might be the cause of this issue. My recommendation be to test different memory using DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

I am still thinking this is a driver issue.

As per the bios this memory is functioning at 2133mhz max, so it is fitting your requirements. The fact that your latest driver intensified the problem points to a driver issue

Is there a known work around?

Since the newer drivers make the problem worse are there older drivers that may possibly improve the problem?

When is a new driver expected?

Do you know of any monitors that do work well with this chip and windows 7 professional?

I can confirm that it's problem with newest driver 4590, because I experience exactly the same issue as Victoriaa. On older versions, like 4542 and 4501, everything was fine.

My configuration:

i5-6600

GA-Z170-HD3P

2x4GB DDR4 2666 MHz (reverting to stock frequency 2133 MHz does nothing)

AOC i2369VM (direct HDMI connection, switching to analog D-Sub connection also changes nothing)

Hi,

I do not have official information about new driver releases, they all are available at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

You can test earlier driver versions at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=hd+530 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=hd+530

I am using Asus VE278H and HP Z27s and this is just to mention a couple of monitors I have around.

I would recommend contacting the motherboard maker for custom drivers or wait for future driver releases at HP http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp Contact HP Customer Support | HP® Customer Support
