Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 lags, help please?

I'm not really a tech sort of person so I'm not really sure how to go about this because all the terms for what board and what drive thingy are unfamiliar.

Product name: HP ENVY 4 Notebook PC

Serial No.: CND225Y78Y

Product No.: B6V27PA# AB4

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1

Micrprocessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz

Graphics device 1: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

This laptop was running fine for quite a while after I started using it, but a few months ago, somehow it started to lag really really badly every time I switch on the laptop. I noticed that after a long while, there's a pop up that says:

Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered

Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I've tried searching on how to solve this issue and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but it still lags for a long time whenever I switch on my laptop. This lag really gets in the way when I need to do my work.

Some help would be truly appreciated.

Hi Tani,

I am sorry you are having problems with your computer but I will do my best to resolve your issue.

The information you provided is very useful and thanks to that I can provide troubleshooting steps according to the problem you are facing.

Let's try this:

  1. Uninstall the current driver you have. Here are some instructions in how to do it:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034574.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034574.htm

  1. Download and install the latest driver for your controller. This is the download link:

If you get a notification message during the installation, it indicates that your computer manufacturer does not allow the installation of generic Intel® video drives. You are required to install drivers from your computer manufacturer.

You may try to force the installation of Intel generic drivers by performing manual procedure, see here for instructions:

Here is the zip version of the video driver:

Hello! I have a similar issue... My Asus K55A laptop hangs while booting before and during the OEM GOP splash screen... And HD 4000 Control Panel doesn't detect the GOP driver as being loaded! It shows vBIOS version 0.0 only. I assure you that Win8.1 Pro x64 IS installed in UEFI mode on a GPT partitioned SSD and the BIOS has Fast Boot enabled and CSM disabled... In the BIOS it DOES show the GOP v3.0.xxxx instead of vBIOS 2132 if I enable CSM. I have horrible display graphics all around including in the Metro interface... DirectX 11 doesn't work properly because WinSAT detects the driver not being WDDM 1.3. I'm forced to use a 10.18.10.3308 driver which Windows only detects... I currently have v3412 manually installed with the 3308 driver update HIDDEN. I don't understand because with my OEM Win8 x64 Single Language, Win8 does detect the driver as WDDM and I CAN update to any Intel driver without any issues... v3316, 3345, 3412 and even the prior v9.x drivers... Any ideas?
