i5-760 normal operating temp??

Hi,

I've just built a new system with an i5-760 processor and was just woundering what the normal temperature was idle/loaded with the stock fan.

I'm looking in the BIOS now configuring the system and its idling at 43/41/42/41 C (core), and 45.2C CPU temp.

Is this normal for this processor or is it too hot for an idle temp?

Thanks.

Tcase max for this processor is 72.7deg C

Tcore which is what is reported is normally 10 to 15 deg higher.

Idle temp around 42 is not bad. (if it was 35 to 38 I'd say it was very good)

Chek you readings under a high stress load will give you a better idea of the quality of your cooling solution.

I try to shoot for keeping Tcore at or below Tcasemax (72.7) but up to 83 ish would not worry me any.

Thanks,

Do you know of any good way to monitor CPU temp while under load, rather than shutting down and going into BIOS??

Also is the stock TIM intel puts on the back of the fans good enough or would a custom grease work better when used with the stock fan?

The stock TIM is very good and is just the right amount for the processor and heatsink. (most folks put on too much when they apply heatsink compound.)

CPUID has several outstanding monitoring tools

HWmonitor http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

and CPU-Z (does not monitor temp but will tell you about everything else concerning you system) are 2 tools I use frequently.

Tmonitor works nicely for reviewing SPEED step and Turbo Boost functionality.

(Best of all they are free downloads.http://www.cpuid.com/softwares.html http://www.cpuid.com/softwares.html)
