Wireless-N 2230 & HP ENVY dv7-7240us

Just received a new HP ENVY and it will not connect wireless. If I use a ethernet it connects immediately. The wireless was setup manually and my router is Linksys WRT54G using WEP security (26 hex). The laptop sees my SSID and attempts to connect stating 'checking system requirements' then after a few moments will state 'Can't connect to this newtork'. Worked with HP support and they are now suggesting a system recovery. I do not believe a brand new out of the box PC should require a system recovery. Plus the PC will connect via ethernet so this is strickly a wireless issue. Any suggestions / thoughts other than kick HP to the curb?

Thank you for your Post.

You are correct indeed that a new laptop should not require a system restore. But if you did install security software like firewalls or anti-virus then you might want to disable them. A system restore is recommended when changes have been done (software changes) and the functions used to work correctly in the past.

This wireless adapter is capable of connecting to WEP security using 128bit (26 hex) security key. What you can try is updating the router firmware, just to make sure you run the latest, since this is already and older router. Also try to use different connection utilities, Windows* 7 and Windows* 8 have both an integrated wireless connection utility and may come also with the Intel® PROSet, so you would see both icons in the task tray (may need to "show hidden icons" to see them)

If you do not have the Intel Proset you may download it here:
